How to fix the «Failed to load project from …» error in Trados Studio - 2

Let's analyze the Trados Studio error:

Failed to load project from ...

There is an error in XML document (X, Y). Unexpected end of file has occurred.

Unexpected end of file while parsing Name has occurred.

The error is caused by a violation of the structure of the SDLPROJ file. This can happen, for example, if Trados Studio terminates unexpectedly while writing data to the file.

The SDLPROJ file stores information about which files are included in the project and where they are located on the disk. If the file becomes corrupted, the project files themselves may still exist, but Trados Studio can no longer determine their locations.

How to fix it:

  • Go to the folder containing the SDLPROJ file. Its location is indicated in the error message.
  • Delete the corrupted SDLPROJ file.
  • Start Trados Studio.
  • Recreate the project and reconnect the relevant source translation memory (or translation memories).
  • If necessary, retranslate the project files using the restored translation memory.
